The block design is a sum of one or more block\nfactors and the block design is optimized sequentially with the\nlevels of each successive block factor optimized conditional on\nall previously optimized block factors. D-optimality is used\nthroughout except for square or rectangular lattice block\ndesigns which are constructed algebraically using mutually\northogonal Latin squares. Crossed block designs with\ninteraction effects are optimized using a weighting scheme\nwhich allows for differential weighting of first and\nsecond-order block effects.
